Ashley D. Reid - born: February 7, 1924 - died: April 11, 2020 - Age: 96


Ashley D. Reid, age 96, of Cliffside, passed away Saturday, April 11, 2020 at Holly Springs Senior Citizens Home.

Ashley was born February 7, 1924 in Spartanburg County to the late Nathaniel B. Reid and Eudora Greene Reid. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of World War II. Ashley was the co-owner and operator of Reid’s Department Store which would later become Reid’s Mini Storage. He was a member of Cliffside United Methodist Church and enjoyed golfing and playing checkers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-eight years, Virginia “Ginny Anne” Reid and brother, Calvin “Blackie” Reid.

Those left to honor his memory include one son, Allan Reid (Diane) of Cliffside; two grandchildren, Michelle Blanton (Bill) and Candice Edwards (Tyson) all of Cliffside; three great-grandchildren, Savannah Edwards, Sully Edwards, Aaron Blanton and two nephews, Jeff Reid of Lincolnton and Steve Branch of Maryland.

A private graveside service will be conducted at Cliffside Cemetery with Reverend Robert Hodgens officiating.

Virginia "Ginny Anne" Reid, age 84, of Cliffside, died Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

Born January 31, 1931 in Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late Raudy Greene and Prella Beason Greene. She and her husband, Ashley, owned and operated Reid's Clothing Store from 1952 until 1992. Ginny Anne was also a lifetime member of Cliffside United Methodist Church. She was an outgoing "people" person who enjoyed participating in the annual Cliffside Days Event. Ginny Anne most of all loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by ten siblings.
Survivors include her husband of sixty-eight years, Ashley D. Reid; one son, Allan Reid and wife, Diane of Cliffside; two granddaughters, Michelle Blanton and husband, Bill and Candice Edwards and husband, Tyson all of Cliffside; three great-grandchildren, Savannah Pye, Sully Edwards, Aaron Blanton and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 o'clock in the afternoon on Friday, November 27, 2015 at the Cliffside United Methodist Church with Reverend Robert Hodgens officiating. Interment will follow in Cliffside Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service time at the church.
